Dhaka: United Nations Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Gwyn Lewis today met with Acting Foreign Secretary Md. Ruhul Alam Siddique at the foreign ministry here.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the meeting, Lewis provided an overview of the UN's active initiatives in Bangladesh. These include support for the country's transition from Least Developed Country (LDC) status, job creation, migration, climate financing, the One Health Programme, and electoral assistance.
Lewis highlighted a significant funding shortfall for the Rohingya response and discussed the UN's ongoing efforts to optimize spending and mobilize additional resources to address this financial gap.
The Acting Foreign Secretary expressed appreciation for the United Nations' consistent support and involvement in Bangladesh. He emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation to tackle the evolving challenges and to advance shared development and humanitarian goals.
