Manama: Journalists and media figures commended the United Nations General Assembly's adoption of January 28 as the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence, based on an initiative by the Kingdom of Bahrain. They described it as a historic achievement reflecting Bahrain's ongoing efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to promote coexistence and tolerance among nations and cultures.
According to Bahrain News Agency, during the annual Ramadhan gathering hosted by the King Hamad Global Centre for Peaceful Coexistence (KHGC) to celebrate the UN's endorsement of Bahrain's initiative, journalists noted that the decision reflects the Kingdom's commitment to translating its values of tolerance and peaceful coexistence into tangible global action.
Journalist and writer Ahdeya Ahmed Al Sayed highlighted the UN's recognition as a testament to Bahrain's commitment to dialogue, mutual respect, and cultural harmony. She described the new International Day as a global message of unity and commended the centre's role in promoting tolerance and peaceful coexistence.
Journalist Faisal Al Shaikh emphasised that the UN's adoption of Bahrain's proposal underscores the Kingdom's commitment to dialogue, tolerance, and human development.
Journalist Mahmeed Al Mahmeed described the UN's recognition as a milestone in Bahrain's diplomatic and humanitarian achievements, led by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He highlighted the collective efforts behind this success, particularly the role of the KHGC, in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomatic missions, which secured international consensus on adopting the International Day of Peaceful Coexistence.
He added that the UN's endorsement reflects His Majesty's global standing and international appreciation for his leadership in fostering human solidarity, peaceful coexistence, and sustainable development.
Mohammed Al Shahrani, General Supervisor of Okaz newspaper's regional office in Saudi Arabia's Eastern Province, described the UN decision as a testament to Bahrain's dedication to developing global peace, understanding, and intercultural dialogue. He highlighted the role of peaceful coexistence in international relations, underpinning political and religious harmony as essential elements for stability among nations and governments.
Journalist Ghazi Al Ghariri said that the UN's approval of Bahrain's proposal highlights the Kingdom's commitment to peace and tolerance. He noted that under His Majesty's leadership, Bahrain has become a regional model for coexistence and interfaith dialogue. He added that the UN resolution reinforces global efforts to make peaceful coexistence a pillar of security, stability, and sustainable development.
