UN Condemns Armed Attack on Haitian Town of Cabaret

Port-au-prince: Ant³nio Guterres, Secretary General of the United Nations, strongly condemned the armed attack carried out by gangs in the town of Cabaret in Haiti's West Department, which left at least 40 people dead, including women, children, and elderly.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the statement issued by St©phane Dujarric, Spokesman for the Secretary General, conveyed Guterres' sincere condolences to the families of the victims and to the people and Government of Haiti. Guterres voiced deep concern over the escalating levels of violence in the country.

Guterres urged the Haitian authorities to ensure accountability for the perpetrators of these crimes and other grave human rights violations. He called on the international community to accelerate efforts to support the Multinational Security Support (MSS) mission by providing the necessary logistics, funding, and personnel to assist the Haitian National Police in confronting the violence.

Guterres underlined the need for full adherence to international human rights law in all efforts aimed at restoring security and stability in Haiti.
