UAE welcomes unloading of decaying oil tanker off Yemen coast

The UAE on Thursday welcomed the start of a United Nations (UN) operation to unload oil from the tanker FSO Safer off the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a press release, appreciated international efforts and UN endeavors over recent years, which have led to the implementation of the unloading plan for the decaying FSO Safer tanker.

The decaying oil tanker posed a major threat to marine environment, international navigation and global trade, the ministry added.

The UN on Tuesday announced the start of unloading the oil tanker FSO Safer, which contains 1.14 million barrels of oil.
