UAE deputy representative to the UN calls for preserving the political track to resolve the Libyan crisis.

The UAE Deputy Representative to the UN, Ambassador Mohamed Bu-Shahab, called on Libyan leaders to reach consensus on the election laws to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for security and stability.

Bu-Shahab, during his remark in the Security Council session that was held yesterday and witnessed a briefing by the UN Envoy, Abdoulaye Bathily, on Libya, stressed that preserving the political track is a priority led by Libyans so that the country turns the past and its internal divisions.

He also called for the need to focus on national reconciliation and dialogue as necessary to build confidence between the Libyan parties to achieve national unity and the country’s stability, indicating his support for the efforts of the Presidency Council and African Union in the national reconciliation project.

He commended the meeting of the Security Working Group in Tripoli last May, and its subsequent meeting in Benghazi, pointing out that it demonstrates the military leaders’ commitment to respecting the cease-fire.

Bu-Shahab stressed the need for this to be accompanied by actual steps on the ground, including the simultaneous, phased, and gradual withdrawal of foreign fighters, foreign forces, and mercenaries.
