Two Defendants Sentenced to Life for Collaborating with IRGC

Manama: The Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution announced that the High Criminal Court, during its session held today, sentenced two defendants to life imprisonment after convicting them of communicating and collaborating with the terrorist Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) with the intent of carrying out hostile and terrorist acts against the Kingdom of Bahrain and harming its interests. The court also imposed a fine of BD10,000 and ordered the confiscation of seized items.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the General Directorate of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science said that Iranian intelligence agencies and the IRGC had financed and tasked leaders of certain terrorist groups based in the Islamic Republic of Iran with monitoring several vital facilities in Bahrain in preparation for targeting them and carrying out terrorist operations aimed at undermining the Kingdom's security and stability.

Investigations revealed that the first defendant, who had fled to Iran, recruited the second defendant, who was inside Bahrain, to carry out terrorist operations in the Kingdom. The second defendant was assigned to transfer, receive and deliver funds designated to support and finance terrorist elements affiliated with the organization, in addition to monitoring vital facilities and passing related information to the IRGC and Iranian intelligence agencies at their request in preparation for targeting those facilities during the Iranian aggression against the Kingdom.

Upon receiving the report, the Public Prosecution immediately launched an investigation, during which the defendants were interrogated, witness testimonies were heard, and technical experts were assigned to examine the seized electronic devices. The examination results confirmed the defendants' involvement in the offences attributed to them. The Public Prosecution ordered their detention and referred the case to the High Criminal Court, which issued the aforementioned ruling during today's session.

The case was heard over several sessions during which all legally mandated guarantees were observed, including the attendance of the defense lawyers and granting them full opportunity to present their defense, within the framework of ensuring all fair trial guarantees stipulated by law.
