Cairo: Tunisia has officially taken on the role of Chairmanship of the Council of the League of Arab States at the Ministerial Level, with Mr. Mohamed Ali Nafti, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, presiding over the 166th Session. In his address, Minister Nafti emphasized Tunisia's commitment to strengthening Arab solidarity and advancing joint Arab action during this critical period.
According to African Press Organization, Minister Nafti highlighted the importance of security and stability in the region, particularly emphasizing the rights of the Palestinian people to establish an independent state with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital. He reaffirmed Tunisia's steadfast support for the Palestinian cause and condemned attacks on Syrian and Lebanese territories, advocating for respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all nations. The Minister also expressed Tunisia's support for solutions to the crises in Libya, Sudan, and Yemen that respect their unity and sovereignty.
Minister Nafti further declared Tunisia's solidarity with several Arab nations, including Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Oman, Jordan, and Iraq, against violations targeting their sovereignty and stability. He urged for better coordination among Arab States to tackle security challenges and stressed the importance of implementing Arab strategies and decisions to meet the aspirations of the Arab peoples.
In the realm of development, social, and economic fields, Minister Nafti showcased Tunisia's involvement in Arab strategies, recalling its hosting of the Arab High-Level Preparatory Meeting for the Second World Summit for Social Development and its receipt of the Arab Government Excellence Award for its educational project. He also noted Tunisia's leadership in the Arab Board of Health Specializations and its designation as the Arab Tourism Capital for 2027, viewing it as an opportunity to enhance tourism and cultural cooperation.
At the session's conclusion, Minister Nafti reaffirmed Tunisia's determination to contribute actively to joint Arab action and developing mechanisms that strengthen the League's role. Arab delegations expressed their appreciation for Tunisia's efforts and renewed their confidence in its leadership, hoping it would foster dialogue, consultation, and Arab unity.
On the session's sidelines, Minister Nafti engaged in discussions with Arab counterparts to explore further cooperation and prepare for upcoming bilateral engagements.
