Transportation Minister Participates in Key GCC and DCO Meetings in Kuwait

Manama: Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, actively participated in the 29th meeting of the GCC Ministerial Committee for Post and Telecommunications in the State of Kuwait. The gathering included ministers from the GCC countries, focusing on enhancing Gulf cooperation in digital infrastructure and postal services.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting reviewed the implementation of decisions from the committee's 28th session and discussed outcomes from the 31st meeting of the GCC Undersecretaries of Post and Telecommunications, held in Doha in September. Key topics included developing postal and logistics services, sharing expertise in regulatory policies, and reducing costs for shared services, all to support digital transformation and economic integration among GCC states.

The minister also attended the Digital Cooperation Organisation (DCO) meeting, where the secretariat presented reports and initiatives on misinformation, electronic waste management, and start-up support through legislative frameworks. The meeting highlighted Bahrain's commitment to the DCO's efforts in boosting digital cooperation and sustainable development. Participants praised the DCO's role in fostering the digital economy and building a cohesive digital ecosystem regionally and internationally.

On the sidelines, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed held bilateral talks with Abdullah bin Amer Al Swaha, Saudi Arabia's Minister of Communications and Information Technology, to strengthen Bahrain-Saudi ties in telecommunications. Discussions covered joint initiatives within the GCC, including digital transformation, infrastructure development, and artificial intelligence.

Additionally, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla met with Deemah Al Yahya, DCO's Secretary General, to discuss the organisation's latest initiatives and ways to enhance cooperation in the digital economy and emerging technologies. Both parties stressed the need for ongoing coordination to support future initiatives contributing to digital transformation and sustainable development in member states.
