Transportation Minister Highlights Bahrain’s Role as Regional Hub for Meteorology

Manama: The Kingdom of Bahrain joined Arab states in marking Arab Meteorology Day, held under the slogan "Meteorology... for human safety and global sustainability." The event emphasizes the crucial role of weather services in safeguarding lives and property through precise forecasting and early warnings, while also fostering sustainable development.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, the Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications, reiterated Bahrain's dedication to enhancing human safety and environmental sustainability. He highlighted the ministry's efforts to upgrade meteorological systems with cutting-edge technology, including advanced satellites, radars, and artificial intelligence, and emphasized Bahrain's participation in international initiatives such as "Early Warnings for All."

Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed further noted that since 2005, Bahrain has hosted the WMO Inter-Regional Representative Office for the Arab Region (IOAR), establishing itself as a central hub for Arab cooperation. Bahrain also functions as the Regional OPMET Centre, providing aviation information backup.

The Transportation Minister elaborated on Bahrain's ongoing modernization of alert mechanisms and satellite systems to ensure timely warnings and more accurate forecasts. He emphasized continued investment in digital transformation and international collaboration in meteorology and climate.
