TONY FRANGIEH MEETS FINANCE MINISTER, PUSHES FOR ANTI-CORRUPTION MEASURES

MP Tony Frangieh on Wednesday met with Caretaker Finance Minister, Youssef Khalil, in the presence of attorney Antoine Fenianos.

During the meeting, Frangieh emphasized the urgency of implementing anti-corruption laws and initiating necessary investigations to prevent the exploitation of statutes of limitations for crimes that may have occurred during the subsidy period.

This call to action follows a report from the Public Relations Unit at the Central Bank of Lebanon, which confirmed that detailed records of all subsidy files have been handed over to the relevant authorities.

The meeting also underscored the importance of enforcing Law No. 240/2021, which was urgently passed based on a proposal by MP Frangieh.

This law mandates forensic financial audits for all beneficiaries of government subsidies in U.S. dollars or equivalent foreign currencies, starting from October 17, 2019, following the lifting of banking secrecy on these accounts.
