The Ministry of Interior issued a statement on the occasion of World Anti-Drug Day.

The Ministry stated in a statement that the Ministry of Interior has placed the fight against drug crime at the forefront of its concerns and has harnessed the capabilities to reduce this dangerous scourge, as it is no secret to anyone its significant negative effects in various societies.

It added that on World Anti-Drug Day, which falls on the twenty-sixth of June of each year, we affirm that the efforts of the Iraqi Ministry of Interior are continuing to combat drugs, as many international and local traffickers have been arrested and referred to the judiciary, and harsh sentences have been issued against them. We have also worked to activate International cooperation because drug crime crosses borders and we have great cooperation with all neighboring countries and others to eliminate these poisons and work to continue pursuing smugglers and traffickers and prevent any malicious attempts by them to reach their cheap goals
in promoting drugs and confront them firmly.

We also reiterate our support for all international efforts aimed at eliminating drugs and supporting those seeking to assist the security services in their war against drugs, which are no less dangerous than terrorism, after they have become one of the main causes of crime.

The Ministry concluded: We have made sacrifices in order to eliminate this scourge, and we will continue our work in this field until we reach our goals through active participation with all those seeking to see a society free of these dangerous toxins.
