Manama: The Labour Fund (Tamkeen) has announced its backing for wage increments for 21 Bahraini employees at City Glass through its Wage Increment Programme. This initiative represents more than 50% of the company's Bahraini workforce, aligning with Tamkeen's mission to bolster career development for Bahraini talent within the private sector.
According to Bahrain News Agency, this support resonates with Tamkeen's strategic goals for 2025, which include enhancing the competitiveness of Bahrainis in the private sector, equipping them with essential skills for career advancement, and focusing on enterprise growth, digitisation, and sustainability. The organisation is also committed to fostering an ecosystem that supports the labour market and private sector development.
Khalid Al Bayat, Chief Growth Officer at Tamkeen, expressed pride in supporting national enterprises that invest in the growth of their Bahraini workforce. He highlighted the industrial sector's significant role as the second-largest contributor to Bahrain's GDP, accounting for 16% in the third quarter of the previous year, and its potential for expansion and creating high-quality employment for local talent.
Additionally, City Glass has benefited from enterprise financing programmes, enabling its expansion in the Hidd area and the establishment of a new glass production facility. This expansion is expected to boost production capacity, open new export opportunities, and positively contribute to diversifying local supply chains.
Ahmed Habib Abdulmajid, City Glass Human Resources Specialist, noted the essential role of glass in construction, representing 30% of building materials. He credited Tamkeen's support for significantly aiding the company's expansion plans and empowering employees through wage increments. With these developments, City Glass aims to enhance its production capacity and enter the Saudi Arabian market later this year.
