Manama: The Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) announced that the ban on shrimp fishing in the territorial waters of the Kingdom of Bahrain will be lifted effective August 1, following the end of the ban period that began in early February.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the General Directorate of Marine Resources at the SCE's Executive Body stated that the ban on catching, trading, or selling shrimp is part of the Kingdom's efforts to protect marine resources and ensure their sustainability in Bahrain's territorial waters by protecting shrimp during their fertilisation and breeding period. The directorate noted that the measure will have a positive impact on shrimp availability in local markets during the fishing season.
The General Directorate of Marine Resources commended the efforts of the authorities that cooperated with the directorate in carrying out monitoring and inspection operations during the ban period, as well as the cooperation and commitment shown by the fishing sector in complying with the ban. It said this cooperation reflects the commitment of the people of the Kingdom to protecting and sustaining Bahrain's marine resources.
