Manama: In a statement detailing the operations and investigative findings of the Special Investigation Unit, Mohammed Khalid Al Hazaa, Acting Advocate General and Head of the Unit, announced that the Unit received 14 complaints during the first third of 2026. These complaints contained allegations that fall within the Unit's specific subject-matter jurisdiction, and all prescribed legal measures have been taken accordingly.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the unit heard the testimonies of 19 complainants and witnesses as part of its statistical report on activities during this period. It also interrogated 16 accused and suspects from among law enforcement personnel. Furthermore, six complainants were referred to the Forensic Medicine and Psychological Support Division as necessitated by the investigations. These actions were taken following established principles and protocols regarding documentation, the collection of evidence, and victim care.
In connection with the Unit's achievements during the aforementioned period, following the conclusion of investigations into the death of a detainee, the Unit referred the accused, while in custody, to the High Criminal Court. Evidence established that the accused assaulted the detainee, leading to his death. The first trial session was held on May 4.
The legal proceedings in one of the cases resulted in disciplinary sanctions against two members of the police force. This was due to proof that they committed a legal violation that warranted accountability.
