Special Investigation Unit: Life Imprisonment for Defendant in Detainee Death Case

Manama: The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) announced that the First High Criminal Court sentenced the defendant to life imprisonment in a case concerning the death of a detainee.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the case dates to March 27, 2026, when the SIU monitored reports circulated on social media regarding the detainee's death. On that same day, the Unit also received a notification from the Inspector General of the National Security Agency stating that the deceased had been held in the custody of the service and had been assaulted by one of its personnel, resulting in multiple injuries. The detainee was subsequently transferred to hospital, where he succumbed to those injuries.

The Unit launched an extensive investigation to determine the circumstances of the incident, trace the procedures taken following the arrest of the deceased, and examine all evidence and information related to the case in accordance with its legal mandate. It concluded that the accused had committed the crime based on sufficient and conclusive evidence and ordered his referral while in custody to the First High Criminal Court, which issued the aforementioned ruling, in confirmation of its commitment to safeguarding rights, ensuring accountability, and upholding the rule of law.
