Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, affirmed that the decision to revoke Bahraini nationality from individuals involved in actions undermining the Kingdom's interests sends a firm message to safeguard society and strengthen its unity. The Speaker noted that undermining national security or harming the Kingdom's interests constitutes a breach of citizenship principles, duties, and responsibilities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Musallam commended the decision to revoke the Bahraini nationality of individuals who expressed support for or glorified hostile Iranian acts, or engaged in contacts with external parties. The total number of individuals whose nationality has been revoked, including dependants, is 69, and they are all of non-Bahraini origin.
The measure was taken in implementation of the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to take the necessary measures against those who have committed acts of treason or undermined the Kingdom's security and stability, and to review those who merit Bahraini nationality and those who do not. It also follows the directives of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, as part of ongoing efforts to maintain security and stability.
Al Musallam underscored that the granting and revocation of nationality are sovereign decisions recognised regionally and internationally. He noted that comparable legislation in Gulf Cooperation Council countries treats nationality issues as acts of sovereignty.
He also commended the efforts of the Ministry of Interior and relevant authorities in maintaining security and stability, and affirmed parliamentary support for all measures aimed at safeguarding the Kingdom's interests, reinforcing national unity, and responsible citizenship.
