Manama: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives, welcomed Martin Chungong, Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), during the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) meeting in Bahrain. The meeting included the participation of MP Abdulnabi Salman Ahmed, First Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives; MP Ahmed Sabah Al Salloom, Vice-President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly; and Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary General of the Council of Representatives.
According to Bahrain News Agency, discussions focused on strengthening cooperation between the Council of Representatives and the IPU on parliamentary and administrative fronts. Speaker Al Musallam emphasized the significance of increased coordination between the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and the Inter-Parliamentary Union, advocating for expanded joint initiatives that align with global and technological advancements and support the Sustainable Development Goals.
Chungong praised the proactive role and initiatives of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation in promoting international parliamentary action. He also acknowledged the forward-thinking projects of the General Secretariat of the Council of Representatives in areas such as green parliaments, artificial intelligence, and digital transformation. Chungong expressed enthusiasm for further collaboration and the implementation of joint programs with both the Council of Representatives and the Asian Parliamentary Assembly.
Additionally, he congratulated the Bahraini parliamentary delegation on successfully organizing the 16th session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly, citing positive participant feedback and underscoring the professionalism and administrative expertise of the national personnel in the Shura Council and the Council of Representatives.
