Istanbul: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and President of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), chaired the coordination meeting of the APA, held in Trkiye, on the sidelines of the 152nd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU). The Speaker highlighted the serious escalation in the Middle East, emphasizing the challenges posed by Iranian attacks targeting Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Musallam stated that these Iranian actions are a clear violation of national sovereignty and international law, posing a direct threat to regional and global security. He further noted the severe impact of Iran's closure of the Strait of Hormuz on energy security, global trade, food supply chains, and the global economy.
Al Musallam pointed out that United Nations Security Council Resolution 2817 and United Nations Human Rights Council Resolution 38 demonstrate international solidarity in condemning Iran's actions. The international community has urged Iran to cease its aggression against Gulf states and Jordan, emphasizing the protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure, and ensuring freedom of navigation.
The Speaker called for the APA to intensify coordinated parliamentary action to safeguard regional security and stability.
