Speaker Al Musallam Advocates for Parliamentary Support Against Iranian Attacks at IPU Assembly

Istanbul: Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Parliamentary Division, engaged in discussions with Rojo Edward, President of the Group of Latin America and the Caribbean (GRULAC), during the 152nd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) in Istanbul, Republic of Trkiye. The dialogue centered around several agenda items, particularly the emergency item submitted by Bahrain and the UAE, addressing the condemnation and rejection of Iranian attacks that threaten regional and international security.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Speaker Al Musallam underscored the significance of garnering international parliamentary support for the emergency item, highlighting it as a reflection of a responsible parliamentary stance against actions undermining state sovereignty and regional security. He referenced UN Security Council Resolution (2817) and the UN Human Rights Council resolution condemning Iranian attacks on GCC states and Jordan, emphasizing the need for reinforcing parliamentary diplomacy to uphold international legitimacy resolutions and respect for state sovereignty.

Speaker Al Musallam reiterated Bahrain's commitment to regional and international stability through consistent advocacy for peace, dialogue, and adherence to international law. He emphasized collaborative efforts to address security challenges and threats to states and peoples. Rojo Edward, President of GRULAC, acknowledged Bahrain's contributions to international concerns and highlighted the importance of dialogue and cooperation within the IPU to tackle challenges faced by nations.

Edward affirmed GRULAC's support for the emergency item proposed by Bahrain and the UAE, stressing the necessity of halting Iranian attacks on GCC states and Jordan.
