South Korea’s Death Toll from Heavy Rains and Landslides Increases to 19

Seoul: Another person has been confirmed dead following last week's heavy rains and landslides, raising the death toll to 19, the government announced on Tuesday. Nine others remain missing, bringing the total number of dead or unaccounted for from the rainfall between Wednesday and Sunday to 28.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the casualties include 10 in the southern county of Sancheong, three in the northern county of Gapyeong, and two in the western city of Seosan, as reported by the South Korean News Agency (Yonhap). Four of the missing are from Sancheong, and another four from Gapyeong.

Recovery efforts have been expedited, with approximately 2,976 of the 6,752 damaged buildings and facilities undergoing emergency restoration. Over 14,000 people have sought shelter since the rains began, with 2,549 still displaced.
