South African President Cyril Ramaphosa wins a second presidential term

Baghdad: /NINA/- The South African Parliament approved Cyril Ramaphosa’s assumption of the presidency of South Africa for a second presidential term.

Judge Raymond Zondo, who chaired the election session, said that Ramaphosa obtained 283 votes from the National Assembly that emerged from the recent legislative elections and consisted of 400 members, noting that the candidate of the radical leftist “EFF” party, Julius Malema, obtained 44 votes.

President Ramaphosa reached an agreement on Friday to form a coalition between his African National Congress party and the former opposition Democratic Alliance party, which won 87 seats in parliament.

This will be the first time a coalition government has been formed in 30 years.

The South African Electoral Commission had earlier announced that the ruling African National Congress party won 159 seats in the elections held on May 29, but lost its absolute majority in parliament for the first time in its history.
