Manama: The Ministry of Social Development marked the 50th Arab Deaf Week with an event held at the Mubarak Jassim Kanoo Comprehensive Social Centre. The gathering witnessed the participation of Mahmood Abdulwahed Turki Matrook, Assistant Undersecretary for Welfare and Social Rehabilitation, along with officials, specialists, and stakeholders in the disability sector.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the ministry reaffirmed its dedication to fostering inclusion, social justice, and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities. It highlighted ongoing initiatives aimed at improving the quality of life for the deaf community and facilitating their active involvement in society.
The event featured various activities, including a short video, a theatrical performance depicting the experiences of the deaf, a personal story shared by a parent of a deaf individual, and a presentation addressing key challenges and future directions for empowerment.
Arab Deaf Week is celebrated annually to increase awareness about the rights and needs of the deaf community. The Ministry is actively implementing the National Strategy for Persons with Disabilities, which extends through 2027.
The ceremony concluded with the acknowledgment of inspiring individuals and supporting entities for their contributions to promoting inclusion and community engagement.
