Shura, Representatives Secretaries General Discuss Managing Social Media in Parliaments

Tashkent: Mohamed Ibrahim Al Sisi Al Buainain, Secretary General of the Council of Representatives, and Kareema Mohamed Al Abbasi, Secretary General of the Shura Council, participated in the Association of Secretaries General of National Parliaments meeting, during the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. The meeting focused on the topic of managing social media in parliaments.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the secretaries general discussed with their counterparts the importance of social media as a key tool for parliamentary communication with citizens. This included its role in enhancing transparency and raising awareness of legislative and oversight work.

The discussions also examined the role of parliamentary secretariats in supporting digital parliamentary content. This included establishing policies to ensure professionalism and reliability in delivering information.

Participants at the meeting reviewed experiences and practices related to activating parliamentary accounts on digital platforms, managing content, and engaging with the public. They highlighted how these platforms help promote various parliamentary activities, including sessions, committees, and local and international events.

The meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by parliaments and legislative councils to modernise parliamentary tools and enhance the role of digital media in supporting the legislative process.
