Manama: The Shura Council's Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee, led by Dalal Jassim Al Zayed, has confirmed the constitutional and legal validity of a draft law that approves the amended Marrakesh Agreement. This amendment aims to incorporate the Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies into Annex 1A of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) framework.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the draft law is instrumental in supporting efforts to protect global fish stocks. It proposes a ban on harmful fisheries subsidies, which is a significant step towards promoting ocean sustainability.
The committee has forwarded its conclusions to the Foreign Affairs, Defence, and National Security Committee for further examination. The findings affirm that the draft law is consistent with constitutional and legal standards.
