Shaikh Ibrahim Centre to host Italian singer’s concert

The Italian Embassy in Manama, in collaboration with the Shaikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research, presents the concert “Naples, Harbour of Souls” by the Italian singer Mafalda Minnozzi and her trio, on Thursday May 11th 2023 at 8pm.

The concert is a journey into the popular Neapolitan musical tradition, also simply referred to as the “Neapolitan song”, from the beginning of the 19th century to the 1970s. The Neapolitan song, indeed, has deep historical roots in the Middle Age and over the centuries has produced true masterpieces of the Italian music repertoire. Neapolitan music is typically characterized by its lively rhythms, passionate melodies and expressive vocal style, accompanied by instruments of the Neapolitan and Italian tradition such as the mandolin, the guitar and the tambourine.

Mafalda and her trio will pay tribute to the most famous Neapolitan songs of all times, such as “O Sole mio” and “Te voglio bene assaje”, just to name a few. The singer Mafalda Minnozzi has performed in over 1,000 concerts during her 35 years of career in countries such as Italy, Brazil and the USA and her voice has featured in dozens of compilations and soundtracks of TV series and films.

Ambassador Paola Amadei, in an interview with the local press, stated that: “It is always such a delight to bring Italian music to Bahrain, where it is welcomed with warmth and interest. The collaboration with the Shaikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research is truly excellent, we have organized numerous events, always receiving a great response from the community and we are very pleased that the tradition of Italian music is so appreciated in Bahrain”.

Confirming the great success of the concert, the theater registered a “full house”. The event was attended by the President of Shaikh Ibrahim bin Mohammed Al Khalifa Center for Culture and Research, Shaikha Mai bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, other representatives of Bahraini institutions, embassies, local society and the students of the “Grazia Deledda” Center for Italian Language and Culture.
