New york: Lulwa Saleh Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), engaged in a significant meeting with Dr. Moez Doraid, Regional Director of the United Nations Women Arab States Office, during Bahrain's participation in the UN General Assembly high-level meeting. This gathering marked the 30th anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women (Beijing+30) and took place from September 19-24.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the discussions focused on updates to the joint action plan between UN Women and the SCW concerning the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment. A consensus was reached on appointing a special coordinator to manage the award. They also deliberated on preparations for the international jury responsible for screening and assessing entries, emphasizing geographical distribution.
The meeting explored additional topics, such as UN Women's youth programme, designed to empower young men and women as future leaders in supporting women's rights. Furthermore, they reviewed the mechanism for UN Women to monitor the institutions of award winners and evaluate the impact of the award on these organizations and women's empowerment in their respective countries.
Finally, the discussion included final preparations for a side event aimed at promoting the third edition of the Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa Global Award for Women's Empowerment. This event, organized by the SCW in collaboration with UN Women, is scheduled for next Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York.
