Manama: Lulwa Saleh Al Awadhi, Secretary General of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), held a joint committee meeting with Ahlam Ahmed Rajab, President of the Bahrain Women's Union, to discuss enhancing cooperation between their institutions and implementing their memorandum of understanding (MoU).
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting underscored the commitment of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabika bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of SCW, to bolster collaboration with civil society institutions that focus on women's issues. Al Awadhi emphasized that the relationship between SCW and the Bahrain Women's Union is complementary in its efforts to serve Bahraini women.
The committee reviewed several areas of cooperation, such as raising awareness on gender equality and equal opportunities, promoting the national model for integrating women's needs, and highlighting women's contributions and achievements. They also discussed exchanging expertise in combating violence against women and providing family guidance services, as well as sharing statistics, studies, and research on mutual interests. Collaboration on awareness, training, and knowledge dissemination programmes related to women's issues and family stability was also a point of focus.
Further discussions included initiatives under the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025 - 2026), with joint priorities set across the plan's four key areas: family stability, decision-making, economic participation, and quality of life.
The meeting also addressed initiatives and projects from the Bahrain Women's Union, such as awareness programmes for young couples preparing for marriage and media-related projects. The committee explored further cooperation in promoting and implementing SCW initiatives, including its awards and ongoing programmes.
