Manama: The Rashid Equestrian and Horseracing Club (REHC) is marking its 50th anniversary since its establishment in 1977, signifying a significant milestone in its journey of achievement and progress. The club's Golden Jubilee reflects the legacy and vision that have shaped its development over the past five decades.
According to Bahrain News Agency, since its inception, REHC has positioned itself as a leading equestrian and horseracing institution in Bahrain and the region. With the support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and directives from His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the club has solidified its standing and enhanced Bahrain's presence on the regional and international horseracing stage.
Over the years, REHC has experienced various phases of development and modernisation, significantly advancing horseracing in Bahrain. Recent developments under the guidance of His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa have resulted in a qualitative shift in race development and international participation. Among these achievements is the promotion of the Bahrain International Trophy to Group 1 status, highlighting Bahrain's advanced position in horseracing.
The upcoming 2026/2027 season holds particular importance as it coincides with the club's Golden Jubilee. It will feature new initiatives aligned with REHC's development vision, aiming to enhance technical and administrative standards and improve the experience for owners, trainers, jockeys, and the public. A special commemorative logo has been adopted to serve as the official visual identity for all club events, activities, and media materials.
Yusuf Osama Buhiji, a member of the club's High Committee and Acting Chief Executive Officer, emphasized the significance of the Golden Jubilee as a milestone reflecting a journey of achievement. He acknowledged the support from His Majesty the King and the directives of His Royal Highness the Crown Prince and Prime Minister in driving recent qualitative achievements. Buhiji also highlighted the role of partners and sponsors in strengthening Bahrain's regional and international position in horseracing.
The REHC has approved the racing calendar for the 2026/2027 season, consisting of 30 race meetings beginning on 30 October 2026. Key events include His Majesty the King's Cup Festival in March 2027 and His Royal Highness the Crown Prince's Cup Festival in January 2027, with the season concluding in April 2027. The program will feature a blend of local and international races alongside new development initiatives.
A major highlight of the season will be the Bahrain International Trophy, which, following its promotion to Group 1 status, will be the first such race held in Bahrain. The eighth edition of the event is set for 13 November 2026 and will include two international races for the first time, including the new Bahrain Long Distance Cup.
The Bahrain Turf Series will expand from 12 to 14 races, introducing a mile division. The series will commence in December 2026 and conclude in March 2027. The season will also feature the Future Stars Series for locally bred horses, supporting local breeding and enhancing competitiveness.
Throughout the season, REHC will offer a range of entertainment events and race-day activities, celebrating national and social occasions such as the National Day Festival and the Al Raffah Media Festival. Visitors can look forward to public competitions, diverse dining options, and integrated entertainment experiences that reinforce the club's status as a premier sporting and entertainment destination.
