Qatar Participates in GCC Trade, Industry, and Standardization Affairs Cooperation Committee Meetings

The State of Qatar participated in the 65th meeting of the Gulf Corporation Council (GCC) Ministerial Trade Cooperation Committee, the 51st meeting of the GCC Industrial Cooperation Committee, in addition to the 6th meeting of the Ministerial Committee for Standardization Affairs, in the presence of Their Excellencies the ministers of trade and industry in GCC countries, held in the city of Salalah, in the sisterly Sultanate of Oman.

The State of Qatar’s delegation to the meetings was headed by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry Sultan bin Rashid Al Khater.

The meetings discussed a number of topics and issues on the agenda and took appropriate decisions thereon.

HE the Undersecretary also participated in the consultative meeting of Their Excellencies GCC ministers of trade and industry, and Their Excellencies heads of GCC chambers of commerce and industry.

The consultative meeting discussed the topics and recommendations submitted by the heads of GCC chambers of commerce and industry and took the appropriate decisions thereon.

In a related development, Their Excellencies the GCC ministers of trade and industry participated in the opening of the first Gulf industrial exhibition, honoring Gulf inventors and a number of leading Gulf factories.

During the consultative meeting, Qatar Chamber Second Vice-Chairman Rashid Bin Hamad Al Athba appreciated the efforts of the GCC Secretariat General and its various committees to finalize the topics that were raised in previous consultative meetings.

He suggested that the private sector part takes in expressing its opinion on the outcomes of advisory studies and proposed laws related to the sector as well as participate in the food security committee technical team and other relevant committees.

He stressed the need to re-prioritize the issues raised in previous meetings, which are still pending and unresolved, among the various work teams and committees, leading many issues to lose momentum.

Al Athba called for the adoption of the Made in the GCC slogan, in order to encourage joint investments, work towards unifying economic policies, and promote public-private partnership joint projects, such as integrational projects of the water and power grids, land transport, railway, and technological and innovational industrial projects.
