Manama: Lieutenant General Tariq Al Hassan, Chief of Public Security, emphasised Bahrain's support for the Kuwait Declaration for Disaster Risk Reduction during the ministerial meeting at the Sixth Arab Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. He highlighted the importance of joint efforts in crisis and disaster risk management.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Lt. General Al Hassan stressed Bahrain's commitment, under the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and the support of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, to further developing regional and international cooperation in disaster risk management. He conveyed the greetings of General Shaikh Rashid bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, Minister of Interior.
Lt. General Al Hassan highlighted Bahrain's efforts in developing an integrated disaster risk management system, updating national data within the Sendai Framework, establishing the National Civil Emergency Management Committee, and launching the National Civil Protection Platform to enhance public awareness and readiness. He noted Bahrain's participation in regional and international training exercises to improve disaster response.
On the sidelines of the meeting, Lt. General Al Hassan met Kamal Kishore, Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction, to discuss cooperation. Both sides agreed to feature Bahrain's National Civil Protection Platform as a reference on the UN's PreventionWeb platform.
A draft memorandum of understanding was also prepared between Bahrain and the UN Office for Disaster Risk Reduction to enhance digital awareness content and launch a global website for community disaster readiness.
