Manama:Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), chaired the second meeting of the SCW in its ninth term. During the meeting, Princess Sabeeka expressed gratitude for the congratulations from His Majesty King Hamad on the SCW's Silver Jubilee and its achievements in advancing Bahraini women. She also thanked Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman for his recognition of the Council's progress.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Princess Sabeeka highlighted the importance of the SCW's Silver Jubilee, themed "Twenty-Five Years at the Heart of the Reform Project," as a significant national milestone. The celebration coincides with the royal order naming 2026 as the "Year of Isa Al Kabeer," honoring the founder of the modern state, His Highness Shaikh Isa bin Ali Al Khalifa. She emphasized the SCW's responsibility to further develop the gains achieved over the past 25 years while preparing a new national strategy for Bahraini women.
The Council was briefed by Secretary General Lulwa bint Saleh Al Awadhi on the progress of the National Plan for the Advancement of Bahraini Women (2025-2026), which had reached 67% implementation by mid-September 2026. The Council also reviewed initiatives to support women's participation on the boards of public shareholding companies and the outcomes of meetings with Equal Opportunities Committees in various sectors.
Additionally, the Council approved a study proposal to amend allowances for women with disabilities who lack a provider. Preparations for the post-2026 national strategy for Bahraini women were discussed, with analysis underway in coordination with UN Women to consider international trends. The Council also reviewed the SCW's Silver Jubilee celebrations and Bahraini Women's Day 2026, including related measures and documentation efforts.
