Washington: President Donald Trump has issued an executive order pledging that the United States will guarantee the security of the State of Qatar, affirming Washington's commitment to use all means, including military force if necessary, to defend its territorial integrity and vital infrastructure against any external aggression.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the White House, in a statement, said the United States regards any armed attack on Qatar as a direct threat to US peace and security. It pointed to the longstanding cooperation between the two countries, particularly in security and military fields, noting that Qatar hosts U.S. forces and provides essential support for vital regional operations.
The statement added that Qatar has demonstrated its role as a steadfast strategic ally of the United States through its prominent efforts in mediation and in contributing to the settlement of regional and international disputes. It stressed that US policy is based on protecting Qatar's security and deterring any threats to its stability.
It further affirmed that the United States will take all lawful and appropriate measures including diplomatic, economic, and, if necessary, military to defend the interests of both nations and restore stability in the event of any external attack.
