Petropavlovsk-kamchatskiy: A 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy area in Russia's Far East early Friday local time, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the quake occurred at a depth of about 10 kilometres, increasing the likelihood of impact on coastal areas. Following the tremor, the US tsunami warning system issued an alert over the potential for high waves threatening nearby shores and urged residents to take precautionary measures.
