Lisbon: Authorities in Portugal and Spain are continuing efforts to contain major wildfires sweeping across parts of northern and central Iberia, as high temperatures and strong winds complicate firefighting operations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, in Portugal, over 2,000 firefighters and 20 aircraft have been deployed to tackle seven major wildfires. In Spain, two significant fires are burning in vila and C¡ceres, prompting evacuations and road closures as precautionary measures.
Officials in both countries warned that conditions remain critical, with sudden weather changes posing additional risks to containment efforts. The wildfires have been linked to climate change, which has intensified heatwaves and drought in the region. In Portugal alone, more than 29,000 hectares have burned this year, prompting the government to strengthen aerial firefighting resources.
