London: Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed Al Khalifa, Dean of the Arab Diplomatic Corps and Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to the United Kingdom, recently hosted a reception in honor of His Excellency Mahmoud Abbas, President of the State of Palestine, and his delegation in London. The event, attended by Arab ambassadors accredited to the UK, took place alongside President Abbas's official visit to the country.
According to Bahrain News Agency, President Abbas updated the ambassadors on the current state of the Palestinian cause, focusing on the situations in Gaza and the West Bank. He discussed his government's international efforts to secure an immediate and lasting ceasefire in Gaza, ensure civilian protection, and facilitate urgent humanitarian access. President Abbas emphasized the importance of Arab support in ending the conflict and achieving regional peace through a two-state solution based on international legitimacy.
President Abbas also praised the Council of Arab Ambassadors in the UK for their engagement with British policymakers, which contributed to the UK government's intention to recognize the State of Palestine ahead of an upcoming international peace conference in New York.
In response, Ambassador Shaikh Fawaz bin Mohammed reiterated the collective call for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza and the removal of all barriers to humanitarian aid. He highlighted the Arab stance supporting an independent Palestinian state on the 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital, reinforcing the commitment to realizing Palestinian statehood as a cornerstone for a just and lasting resolution.
