Ombudswoman Engages with UN Development Programme Delegation in Bahrain

Manama: The Ombudswoman Ghada Hameed Habib received a delegation from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The meeting was attended by Shaikh Mohammed bin Ali Al Khalifa, Director of International Cooperation and Development at the Ombuds Office.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the delegation was in the Kingdom of Bahrain to attend a regional workshop organised by the National Human Rights Institution (NHRI) in cooperation with the Arab ICT Organisation (AICTO). The Ombudswoman highlighted the robust cooperation between Bahrain and UN institutions across various development domains.

She stressed the significance of the workshop's focus amidst the rapid advances in artificial intelligence, emphasizing the necessity to ensure its use aligns with good governance principles and protects human rights. The meeting also explored ways to strengthen cooperation and exchange expertise between the Ombuds Office and UNDP.

Additionally, discussions included the latest international practices for integrating human rights and technical standards into institutional systems. The talks also revolved around improving mechanisms for handling complaints and leveraging modern digital solutions effectively and professionally.
