Manama: The Ombuds Office in Manama recently hosted a delegation from the European Parliament's Delegation for relations with the Arab Peninsula, headed by Reinhold Lopatka. The visit marked a significant step towards enhancing communication and collaboration with European institutions.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Ombudswoman Ghada Hameed Habib emphasized the importance of the visit in bolstering the Ombuds Office's international relations. This initiative aims to leverage specialized expertise and experience and to inform stakeholders about the Ombuds Office's role in serving the public and promoting respect for human rights within the police and criminal justice system.
During the meeting, discussions focused on the cooperation between the Ombuds Office and European institutions concerning ombudsman activities, inspections of prisons and detention centers, and the exchange of expertise and international standards. Such cooperation is pivotal for the development of institutional work and enhancing mechanisms for protecting individual rights, ensuring justice, and fairness.
Furthermore, the Ombudswoman highlighted the specialized work and mandates of the Ombuds Office and the Prisoners and Detainees Rights Commission. She described their development and practices as a regional experience that fosters transparency, accountability, and respect for human rights.
