Muscat: The Environment Authority of the Sultanate of Oman continues to monitor and respond to the oil pollution, with the latest field results showing that around 12 kilometres of shoreline in the Ras Madrakah area have been affected. Field response operations are ongoing, while no significant traces of pollution have been detected at other locations.
According to Bahrain News Agency, monitoring results have so far shown no impact from the oil pollution on the shores of Masirah Island, the southern part of which lies within the area potentially affected. The Oman News Agency (ONA) reported that monitoring data and updated models indicate that the oil slick continues to move along its observed trajectory in the open sea, southeast of the Wilayat of Masirah towards the high seas. The slick continues to be monitored in accordance with marine and meteorological conditions.
The Environment Authority, in coordination with the relevant authorities in Oman, continues monitoring and field response operations, assessing developments and taking necessary measures to mitigate environmental impacts and protect the marine and coastal environment.
