Manama: The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) welcomed Bahrain's election to a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council for 2026 - 2027, following support from 186 out of 187 voting countries.
According to Bahrain News Agency, this achievement reflects global recognition of Bahrain's foreign policy based on mutual respect, dialogue, cooperation, and alignment with universal human rights values such as peace, security, justice, and sustainable development.
The NIHR commended Bahrain's balanced and responsible leadership under His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, which has strengthened the kingdom's international reputation and commitment to global peace and security.
The Institute emphasised that Bahrain's Security Council membership offers a platform to highlight its pioneering work in human rights and to influence global policies that balance security with respect for fundamental rights.
The NIHR underscored its full support for Bahrain's efforts to enhance its international role and uphold principles of understanding, cooperation, and mutual respect among nations.
