Moscow:Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairperson of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), participated in observing the Russian State Duma elections at the invitation of the Russian Commissioner for Human Rights. He joined other human rights organizations and international observers in monitoring the electoral process.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the observation included visits to local polling stations and the central election monitoring headquarters. The focus was on reviewing regulatory procedures, voting mechanisms, the presence of party representatives and observers, and the vote-counting process.
In 32 regions, electronic voting was facilitated through a federal platform, with Moscow using its own electronic voting system.
During the visit, Al Derazi participated in a roundtable discussion about election monitoring, international dialogue, and best practices. He emphasized the importance of dialogue and sharing expertise, which enhances public participation and protects electoral rights, despite varying legal systems and national contexts.
This participation underscores NIHR's commitment to sharing expertise and best practices in human rights monitoring of elections. The institution has extensive experience, having monitored elections in Bahrain and participated in legislative observations in Jordan, Morocco, and previously in the Russian State Duma elections.
