Manama: Ali Ahmed Al Derazi, Chairman of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), stated that the introduction of the Press and Digital Media Law marks a significant advancement in bolstering legislative assurances for freedom of opinion and expression within the Kingdom of Bahrain.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Derazi emphasized that the law is in harmony with the National Action Charter, the Constitution, and international human rights agreements. It underscores Bahrain’s dedication to regulating media activities by upholding professional and human rights standards that secure freedom of expression while safeguarding the rights of journalists and media professionals.
Al Derazi further explained that the law aids Bahrain’s national human rights framework amidst the swift progression of digital media. It achieves this by maintaining a balance between the freedom to publish and the protection of privacy, adhering to international standards. He highlighted that the law fosters media practices founded on human rights respect and strengthens Bahrain’s regional and international reputation through ongoing legislative modernization aligned with contemporary media and human rights trends.
