NIHR Board Selection Committee Receives 112 Applications for 2025-2029 Term

Manama: The Committee for the Selection of the Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) announced that it had received 112 applications for board membership between Tuesday, May 27, 2025, and Tuesday, June 10, 2025. Of the applicants, 47% were men and 53% women, with 19% holding doctoral degrees and 41% holding master's degrees.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the committee confirmed that it is currently finalising the proposed list of nominees to be submitted to His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, for the issuance of a Royal Order appointing members of the NIHR Board of Commissioners for the 2025-2029 term.

The committee noted the strong response from citizens, particularly human rights advocates from diverse segments of society. It highlighted the notable representation of highly qualified academics among the applicants, reflecting a widespread interest in and commitment to participating actively in the NIHR's work.

In recent weeks, the committee reviewed and categorised all received applications to ensure they met the eligibility criteria. Applications that did not meet the requirements were excluded, in accordance with the laws and standards governing the selection process, and based on general recommendations from the subcommittee of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), which serves as a legal and interpretive reference for the Paris Principles.
