Brussels: A 24-hour national strike in Belgium led to major disruptions in public services and transport networks, including a complete halt to air traffic. The strike, organised by labour unions, was in protest against budget cuts announced by the coalition government.
According to Bahrain News Agency, public transport services across the country were severely affected, along with operations at ports and several public service sectors. Disruptions in the healthcare sector and grocery stores remained limited.
Private sector workers also joined the strike, impacting operations in key industrial and transport companies.
The strike had international consequences as well, with Brussels Airport cancelling all 244 scheduled flights. Arriving flights were also expected to be affected.
