Tunis:The Chairman of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH), Lieutenant General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa, has announced that the National Health Insurance Programme for Residents will commence on Saturday, October 31, 2026. This initiative represents a significant advancement in Bahrain's healthcare system, fostering collaboration between the public and private sectors.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the programme aims to streamline residents' access to healthcare through a comprehensive insurance framework, enhancing the efficiency of healthcare resources. The SCH Chairman assured that the programme's introduction will not impact the healthcare services provided to Bahraini citizens while affirming the ongoing commitment to improving service quality and efficiency.
Eligible residents will receive mandatory health insurance covering primary and secondary healthcare, emergency treatment, and accidents, as per the approved benefits and regulations. Additionally, optional insurance packages will be offered for beneficiaries and employers seeking broader coverage.
The programme will exclude domestic workers and residents employed by government entities and their dependents. It will link insurance coverage to the issuance and renewal of work and residence permits, ensuring continuous coverage and regulating access to healthcare services. This initiative aims to clarify the rights and responsibilities of all parties involved.
The SCH Chairman highlighted the importance of cooperation between government entities and the private sector to ensure the programme's successful implementation and support the ongoing development and sustainability of Bahrain's healthcare system.
