Manama: Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, today received Dr. Ahmed Mukhtar, Coordinator of the Subregional Office of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) for the Gulf Cooperation Council countries and Yemen and FAO Representative in the United Arab Emirates.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the minister affirmed the ministry's commitment to developing the agricultural sector, supporting farmers, promoting modern technologies and sustainable agricultural practices, and exchanging expertise with international organisations and countries. He highlighted the importance of continued cooperation with FAO and benefiting from its expertise and specialised programmes to increase local production, improve resource efficiency, and support food security and the sustainability of agricultural resources in the Kingdom.
The meeting also addressed means to strengthen cooperation and partnership in agriculture, food security, and sustainability, as well as several issues of common interest. Dr. Mukhtar affirmed FAO's commitment to continued cooperation with the Kingdom in the agricultural and food sectors, praising the Kingdom's efforts to develop agriculture and increase local production and affirming continued support for initiatives that promote food security and sustainability in the region.
