Manama: Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities and Agriculture Affairs, engaged with ambassadors from Arab countries accredited to the Kingdom of Bahrain. Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, President of the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA), was also present at the meeting.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was part of familiarisation tours organised by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for diplomatic corps members. These tours aim to introduce the municipal exhibition and the historical context of municipal work in Bahrain. The minister expressed appreciation for the strong ties between Bahrain and Arab states, highlighting the ongoing collaboration in various fields.
The minister underscored that the development and modernisation within the municipal sector are integral to the comprehensive progress under King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa’s leadership, and the directives of Crown Prince and Prime Minister Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa. He pointed out the rich history of municipal work in Bahrain, dating back over a century to the establishment of Manama Municipality in 1919. This historical legacy has significantly contributed to urban development and public service enhancement. He also noted the reopening of the rehabilitated Manama Municipality building, originally inaugurated in 1962, as a testament to Bahrain’s dedication to preserving its heritage.
During the visit, the ambassadors explored the municipality building’s upgraded facilities and attended an exhibition that chronicles the municipality’s history and institutional development. They received a comprehensive briefing on the municipality’s functions and milestones in its evolution, and various topics of mutual interest were discussed.
The Arab ambassadors praised Bahrain’s institutional advancements, recognising the country’s extensive municipal experience. They emphasised the importance of such engagements in reinforcing Arab cooperation and coordination.
