Nice: Wael bin Nasser Al Mubarak, Minister of Municipalities Affairs and Agriculture, and Hamad Yaqoob Al Mahmeed, Director General of the Prime Minister's Office, recently held a meeting with Audrey Azoulay, Director General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). This meeting took place during the third United Nations Ocean Conference 2025, which was held in Nice, France, from June 9 to 13.
According to Bahrain News Agency, the meeting was also attended by Essam Abdulaziz Al Jassim, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Bahrain to France. During the discussions, the minister praised the cooperative relationship between the Kingdom of Bahrain and UNESCO, emphasizing Bahrain's commitment to supporting initiatives aimed at achieving sustainable development goals. These initiatives are part of strategic plans focused on enhancing development across various sectors.
The minister highlighted the importance of bolstering international efforts to tackle environmental challenges, with an emphasis on climate change and the preservation of natural resources, including seas and oceans. He also commended UNESCO's work through its Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission, which aids the international community in developing knowledge and sharing expertise to protect oceans and ensure their sustainability.
Furthermore, the minister stressed the significance of the third United Nations Ocean Conference as a platform for advancing global efforts to protect marine ecosystems and ensure their sustainability for future generations.
