Muharraq Triumphs in HM the King’s Cup Final Against Riffa


Riffa: Muharraq Club were crowned champions of the 39th edition of HM the King’s Cup football tournament after defeating Riffa Club 2-1 in the final held at Bahrain National Stadium in Riffa.

According to Bahrain News Agency, Riffa took an early lead in the 13th minute through an own goal by Sufyan Mahrooq, before Mohammed Al Hardan equalised for Muharraq in the 28th minute to end the first half 1-1. Muharraq secured the winning goal in the 49th minute through Elliott Simões, maintaining their lead until the final whistle.

The match marked the fourth final meeting between the two teams in the past decade, with Muharraq extending their record over Riffa, having previously won the title against them in 2009, 2012, and 2013. Riffa’s last triumph came in 2010 when they defeated Busaiteen.

With this victory, Muharraq increased their record tally to 20 titles, leading the competition’s honours list, followed by Al Ahli and Al Najma with five titles each, Riffa with four, East Riffa with three, Al Hala with two,
and Al Shabab and Al Hidd with one title each.
