Manama:MP Ahmed Sabah Al Saloom, representing the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA), participated in the 153rd General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) held in Tanzania. He engaged in discussions centered on promoting good governance and empowering local communities through inclusiveness, trust, and equal opportunities.
According to Bahrain News Agency, Al Saloom emphasized that the challenges facing the region are increasingly cross-border, affecting various sectors and areas. He highlighted the importance of promoting good governance in tandem with strengthening multilateral cooperation.
Al Saloom stressed the significant role of parliaments in promoting coexistence, tolerance, and combating intolerance. He underscored that parliaments are not only legislative bodies but also channels for expressing the concerns and aspirations of people, turning differences into opportunities for rapprochement, and enhancing respect for international law.
He conveyed greetings from Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, Speaker of the Council of Representatives and President of the APA, expressing well wishes for the success of the 153rd General Assembly.
Al Saloom noted that the APA's objectives align with the theme of good governance, focusing on cooperation among Asian parliaments, promoting parliamentary diplomacy, and facilitating dialogue on common challenges. He stated that the Assembly aims to foster an environment conducive to peace, stability, and sustainable development.
He further explained that Asia's diversity is a valuable asset, as it allows for cooperation through dialogue and mutual respect. Al Saloom stressed that good governance is a priority for the APA, beginning with listening, expanding through inclusiveness, gaining credibility through trust, and engaging communities with genuine opportunities.
The Assembly places particular importance on parliamentary diplomacy to build bridges between institutions and communities, diversity and common goals, and current challenges and a future that is more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable.
