MP Ahmed Qarata Chairs Key AIPU Financial Committee Meeting

Manama: MP Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and member of the Executive Committee of the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU), chaired the virtual meeting of the AIPU Temporary Financial Committee. The meeting was convened at the request of Ibrahim Boughali, AIPU President.

According to Bahrain News Agency, the session included committee members and Dr. Ahmed bin Alawi Baabood, AIPU Secretary-General. The gathering focused on reviewing requests from several Arab parliamentary blocs for debt rescheduling in alignment with the AIPU statute. Discussions also centered around measures to enhance the Union's performance and ensure its financial sustainability.

Qarata underlined Bahrain's commitment to supporting Arab parliamentary cooperation. He noted that the Kingdom, under the leadership of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa and supported by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister, prioritizes strengthening Arab unity and integration amidst regional challenges.

Additionally, Qarata highlighted the efforts of Bahrain's parliamentary bloc, led by Speaker Ahmed bin Salman Al Musallam, in promoting Arab parliamentary diplomacy and advancing joint initiatives at both regional and international levels.

The meeting served as a preparatory step for the 39th session of the AIPU Executive Committee, scheduled to take place next week in Cairo. Bahrain's delegation will be headed by MP Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, and will include MP Zainab Abdulameer Khalil, Shura Council Member Dr. Fatima Abduljabbar Al Kooheji, and MP Hesham Abdulaziz Al Awadhi.
